Basically it's like The Apprentice, but more stylish. Designer Philippe Starck (he's the one that makes the juicers that look like War of The Worlds martian craft) will invite 25 potential designers to bid for one of 10 places on a design course in Paris. According to The Guardian, finalists will have the chance to test their mad skills on real design projects, with Starck gradually "whittling down the class". Hopefully literally.

At least one student will be rewarded with a six-month placement at Starck's design agency in Paris. The BBC said show would be open to "anyone who feels they have a talent for design, regardless of whether or not they have formal training", which is surely just asking for trouble...

"What excites me about this project is that it's about the future. We are trying to find the talent of young people. We don't want the fashion victim or the design victim; we're seeking the people who do, the people who actually make something," said Starck. "That's why this show can be a wake-up machine. It will also show that no one needs to be a genius to be creative. Creativity is accessible," he added.

"I hope these people will be good because if they are good, definitively, that will change their lives and hopefully improve other people's lives."

But don't get too psyched just yet, pace yourself - the show's not due to air until next year. It will be made by independent production company Twofour, which has previously made Are You Smarter Than a 10-Year-Old? for Sky One and Channel Five's The Hotel Inspector.
