Rio Ferdinand to launch 'hip hop idol'

rio.jpgRio Ferdinand (they tell me he's a footballer) has recently announced that he will launch a celebrity version of Pop Idol but with hip hop instead of pop music, and, er, 'celebrities' (we'll see) instead of civilians.

Stars will be pitted against each other to perform hip hop classics, with the proceeds going to anti-gun crime charities. The national team defender wants Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson to be judges (good luck there love) and the show has Jimmy Carr and Coleen McLoughlin already slated to appear. I know! I, too, am trying to imagine it.

(Not making this up, by the way - even Marina Hyde over at the Guardian has something typically acerbic to say about it. Remember kids: guns don't kill people, rappers do. Save yourselves!)
