The One and Only: finalists revealed

one.jpgDefinitely in the "so bad it's good" category, this show. And helped enormously by having Graham Norton at the helm. The latest BBC talent contest will give the UK's best tribute acts the chance to win a three-month performing contract in Las Vegas. They'll take part in 'Legends in Concert' - the longest running celebrity impersonator show in the world. I imagine there are loads.

Auditions were held to find three impersonators of 10 stars - Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Lionel Ritchie, Robbie Williams, Rod Stewart, Cher, Diana Ross, Dusty Springfield, Kylie Minogue and Madonna. After much line forgetting and torturous training from Carrie Grant (not the dead actor, of course, but the foxy red head who's always on these shows), they attempted to out-star each other in 'Superfan Singoffs' - where the audience included three of the actual star's biggest fans. Do try to keep up.

The male contestants who got through:

Ed Hintze (Elton John), Anthony Adams (Frank Sinatra), Moni Tivony (Lionel Ritchie), Tony Lewis (Robbie Williams) and Greg Dorrell (Rod Stewart).

The females were: Joanna Berns (Cher), Siam Hurlock (Diana Ross), Katy Setterfield (Dusty Springfield), Victoria Jones (Kylie) and Evelyne Brink (Madonna).

There are still two places in the finals remaining and it's up to the public to choose their fave 'wildcard' entries from the audition shows. Tributes to Cliff Richard, Freddie Mercury, Tom Jones, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and Tina Turner will be hoping to be chosen for the live shows, which begin on January 12. My money's on Cliff.

Other things I learned while watching The One and Only

1. In 2008, you can call a show The One and Only without any reference to Chesney Hawkes, without incurring the wrath of his legal team.

2. Anyone looks a bit like Cher with a black fright wig on.

3. The same is not necessarily true of Lionel Richie.

The One and Only is on Saturdays, 7.20pm, BBC 1.
