Dean and Stuart from BB2 chat to Available for Panto about the Teabag Bin!

tbb.jpgYou might not remember very much about Big Brother 2. It was 6 years ago, after all and in telly years that's like 8. But here's a clue - it was the one with Bubble in it, and Brian Dowling won. A chap called Dean came third, and there was another one, Stuart, who was a high-flying businessman into fois gras and fast cars. BB brought Dean and Stuart together, and here at Panto we're delighted welcome the business minds' triumphant return to the public eye - for an invention that's frankly nothing short of genius. It's called... The Teabag Bin. Basically: a little bin that you leave next to the kettle and put your teabag in, so you don't have to drip tea all over the floor. Or make a big mess in the sink.

Intrigued? Impressed? Annoyed you didn't think of it first? Have a look at their site and our exclusive interview with the boys themselves overleaf...

So the idea for the Teabag Bin - it was mentioned while you were in Big Brother, but for how long had the idea been all up in your head?

It was all Dean's Fault. He had been harbouring the idea for years, then one day in Aprill 2002 he called and asked if I could run through how I make a cuppa. Thinking he had finally lost it I obligued and the rest as they say is history.

In the Big Brother house, did you ever wish there was a bin into which you could deposit annoying and/or flavourless housemates?

[Laughs] No I am far too polite to answer this. Dean however would have put every single one of them in there at some point - the poor fella endured 9 weeks.

What else have you been up to since Big Brother? Or has it been mainly bins?
The BB experience has opened as many doors as it closed, we have had the opportunity to do things that perhaps we never would have, Dean played V festival. we met some really nice famous people and my personal favourite claim to fame is that I sang with Britney Spears.

Can you tell us a bit about the Teabag Bin design process - how long did it take to develop the idea from initial sketches to the current product?

On the website teabagbin.com you get to see 5 years of hard work, Dean and I started with his idea, we then got a prototype made- which was really great to see. We took this round to people with our sales pitch. That proved to be the most difficult bit - imagine two blokes off the telly trying to sell you something that you've never heard of or even seen before. I have spent many years in sales and marketing and found it tough but eventually we got people to understand and agree. The combination of Dean and I work well - he comes up with a mad idea and I sell it!

Thanks to Danny Squire of Robert Dyas who took a risk and ordered the first 1,000 units, which back then were plastic and made in the UK. To date we have sold over 100,000 Teabagbins.

Are you going to do a large version for very prolific tea drinkers?

Why, do want us to make one especially for you? £1,000,000 should do it .......cash !

Your website features other products marked "coming soon". I am particularly interested in the Spoonstand. What's that about, then?

The Spoonstand is the next logical idea to stop mess in the kitchen - no more tea stained tea spoons on the work surface - genius!

Do you have plans to create disposal implements for any other foodstuffs?

It's already been invented. It's called a mouth. Mine doubles up and always gets me in trouble!

Have you ever taken the liquid from a bin full of discarded teabags, poured it into a cup, put it in the microwave, heated it up, added milk and/or sugar, and drunk it?

Oh please. Remind me never to come to your house for a cuppa.

I would quite like a Teabag bin to give to my Mum. Can I have one please?

As you said its for your Mum it would be our pleasure,, choose one and let us know.

Thank you for the questions and thank you to everyone that the time to look at www.teabagbin.com
