You know when you really shouldn't laugh, but like, you do anyway? The Apprentice baddie Katie Hopkins has been sacked from her latest incredibly challenging high-flying job... writing a weekly column in her local newspaper. And the best part is, she was voted out by readers.

Leaving aside for the moment what kind of paper would dare to hold an online poll asking readers whether they should sack their own staff ( The Exeter Express and Echo) it's pretty impressive that people felt so strongly about Kate. In fact hundreds logged on, and 84 per cent voted to dump her weekly column. In fairness, she probably deserved it: The Mail reports that her swan song was a piece about the joys of owning a windbreak.

To her credit Kate, who turned down a final place in The Apprentice, will not be fazed.

"People are always quick to knock those who are successful," she said.

"I'm glad I had the moral courage to put myself up there and I will continue to do so." I know the feeling, hon, I really do. I like to think I'm pretty "morally brave" out here on the blog, too.

This is Kate's second firing of the year. In May she was caught in a compromising position in a field with the married man, Mark Cross that she's marrying next year once his divorce comes through.

After pictures of the couple getting back to nature were published in the national press, and Kate lost her brand consultant role at Devon's Meteorological Office.

The paper she wrote for called on readers who thought they could improve on her work, in the 'My column's better than Katie's' series.

"If people would rather read about jumble sales and village fetes, instead of what I've got to say that's their choice," she said. "I enjoyed the work and appreciate the people who supported me, but I have plenty of other things to be getting on with. People like me polarise opinion. I would never want to be someone who people could not remember the name of."
