Big Brother - Brian the bard
Here's a lovely one. Big Bro winner Brian Belo has landed a job narrating plays by Shakespeare — you know, the director of that Leonardo di Caprio film.
The plan is to make two-minute video clips available to download from bordersstores.co.uk, with Belo reading short explanations of Shakespeare plays from Romeo & Juliet to Macbeth, in everyday language. Borders hopes its project will get kids into highbrow plays. Well, one step at a time.
Borders spokesperson David Kohn says, “It’s very important to us at Borders to bring literature to as many people as possible. Getting Brian on board could be the perfect way to get a new generation finding out more about Shakespeare.” It's a well-known fact that no one really cares about Shakespeare now, apart from English teachers, people who live in Stratford, and actors from shows like The Outer Limits trying to claw back some credibility. Someone needs to relight that dwindling flame, and we think Brian, with his poetic notions about life, love and the size of the moon, is the best man for the job.
