Zigg-a-zigg-ahhh: Why Ziggy is not a chauvinistic player
While I am usually one to rant about how sexist men are, one would expect me to hate Ziggy with a merciless, fiery passion. Yet, I don't. At all. I heart him, and I feel the need to defend the lad. Why does everyone hate him? Yes, his relationship with Chanelle is a bit irritating with the constant "Are they or aren't they?" cuddling under that white duvet. And yeah, I'm tired of Ziggy sitting in the Diary Room with that grey hoody pulled up while he mournfully looks into the camera saying, "I really just don't know what I've got myself into...I just...don't know."
However, the guy is not a pig. And I'm not just saying that because of his ripped jeans...or his flowing blond locks...or chiseled cheek bones...or his tattoos...and not just because he ripped off his shirt while singing "Love On The Northern line" and OHMYGOD did you see him cry about his dog?!
Yes he's a bit egotistical (who isn't in that house), yeah he's fully aware of what he looks like, and okay he certainly is quite the charmer. But I find him to be quite intelligent, and emotionally intelligent, which really sets him apart from the other housemates. I really do believe that he did not go into that house looking to strike up a relationship with someone as a "game plan".
He is not "playing" Chanelle nor is he only with her as a way to win. It's easy to look at him, know that he's a "pretty boy" and dismiss everything he does as being the actions of a chauvinistic, sweet talker. It's much more difficult for the public to think and accept that perhaps he really does care for Chanelle, and that he's actually just emotional, and confused.
Girls 'round the UK crapped themselves because Ziggy was expressing to Gerry, Carole, or Big Brother, the normal doubts and worries that we all have at the beginning of a relationship on national TV - while the rest of us just usually just keep them to ourselves. (Or our blogs.) "Girl talk" usually consists of the same worries that Ziggy discusses with his housemates and in the Diary Room. There's such a double standard for men that they aren't allowed to be emotional or confused about a girl without being accused of stringing them along, or in this case, using her to win.
I actually really like Chanelle. I think they're a good couple, and think that they'll do much better when they're outside the house. Yes, she's young, yes she's a bit immature at times. But we can't just dismiss what's going in their relationship just as Chanelle being the young, innocent victim and Ziggy being the older bad guy, who should "know better", and should stop "playing her".
Ziggy to win! (Even though Brian will...)
