Big Brother Live - 6pm: The incredible changing accent of Marcus 'Deeyyyy Fifteen' Bentley

180px-Marcussbentley.jpgRecognise that chap? Nah, probably not, but you'd recognise his voice: Marcus Bentley has been narrating Big Brother since day one.

What you might not have known is that Marcus has also had a career as an actor, appearing in The Bill and London's Burning. And, at the Edinburgh Fringe, he won an award for his work 'Dead Fish'.

But, of course, it's the voice that has gotten him where he is today. He claims that he got the Big Brother gig because of how he said "chickens". His pronunciation of that one word led to the stardom he now enjoys today. Whatever happened to the chickens anyway? I'd like them having something else to look after other than themselves.

Today I went off to YouTube in search of some Nasty Nick videos to accompany our interview, and I found something rather surprising.

Listen, ladies and gents, to the incredible changing accent of Marcus Bentley.

Watch this clip from series one:

Then compare it to series four:

"On the soooofaaas!"

And now, this year:

It's incredible! He's gone from sounding quite normal and lovely to a man who sounds like he's not quite the full omlette. Bring back the old accent Marcus! Please!

Hi guys , I'm Marcus Bentley and I'm a fan' of your site.......just giving an explanation as to my 'changing accent over the course of 7 years of Big Brother. On the first series I was told to speak clearly and slowly and to 'play down' some of my natural accent.....'cos ......... I don't really know why...it was a first really for TV a none famous person with an accent on prime Time ....at the time I hated it.....it wasn't me.........listening again it sounds better than I remember....I just thought at the time it sounded slow and boring.......when it came to the first Celebrity BB it was for comic relief so I was given a bit more licence to be myself and I began developing a style...not an accent... the accent is mine...i play with it occasionally ' I like to mix it up on an episode.......being soft one moment and stronger the next in tone....it's a style that developes all the time and I take your note.on board ..Thanks for caring and good luck with your excellent site...Marcus Bentley
