2pm: Could Jonty face a journey of his own?
Big Brother producers love a good 'journey'. The best so far has been Glyn, blossoming from a young naive welsh fella into a equally young and naive welsh fella -- but now he knows how to pull. Excellent progress m'boy!
This year, some parties were hoping that Charley would eventually see the errors of her ways. Which, when she was fake-evicted, she certainly did... except she decided not to act on it, and now finds herself making up stories to fill the bogroll that is the Daily Star.
But now there's Jonty. As I write this, he is chatting to Shanessa in the garden. He is a lovely, normal bloke. He isn't making jokes that don't make sense, nor descending into nervous cackling laughter every time he feels a bit awkward. It's a side I'd like to see become his permanent face, rather than the distressing Mr Bean-like character he entered as.
Somewhere along the line, this man shrunk his personality behind a wall of 'wacky' behavior. He feels, when confronted with attention, that he must get out the teddies and play up.
The Jonty I'm seeing now is a far cry from the crazed wailings of him on Friday night. He's going through the rule book with the other housemates, pointing out strange bits and bobs that make him laugh. They make the others laugh too -- even Amy and Shanessa who, at the beginning, found Jonty very creepy and hard to live with.
If there is to be a journey in this year's house, I hope it is one of Jonty's self-discovery. I hope he can confront whatever it is that 'created' his other personality and push it out.
If Jonty leaves the house as himself, teddy-less and proud of his time in the house, then, for me, he will be the big story of Big Brother 2007.
