The front-runners in Week One

SAM.jpg Too early? Nah, never. Using a terribly unscientific system of combining information on betting websites with my own personal views, let's take a look at who are the front-runners, and the no-hopers, at this (admittedly very early) stage. If you fancy a flutter yourself, check out our delightful sponsor Virgin Games' Big Brother page for the very latest odds.

The rank outsider, I think it's fairly safe to say, is South London It-Girl, Charley. The first contestant ever to receive chants of 'get her out' before even entering the house, Charley's pouting and posturing just doesn't cut it with the now-cynical audiences. We used to like people who are bold and brash and speak their mind - and she's happy to admit she's in for fame - but it seems the audience now want a bit of character. 100/1

Now for the rest of The Dollies, or the Pretty Little Minxes, two names that Laura came up with within half an hour of entering the house. It's not at all to say that the girls in this little group - Chanelle, Shabnam, Emily and the twins Sam and Amanda or, as I shall henceforth refer to them, Samanda (that's copyrighted) - are bad people, or thick. They're just the excitable young things that most reasonable people would avoid prolonged contact with in a confined space. Sucks for the other housemates. Emily's pronouncement that "there's a new kind of music... it's called indie" was my quote of the evening, but of them all, I actually find Chanelle the most infuriating: she's clearly got some intelligence about her, and yet she said, outright, that she "wants to be a WAG". Her Posh obsession is slightly disturbing. Not as disturbing as Samanda though, clearly. Normally I would feel bad for just lumping twins together - they're each their own person, I know that - but they don't exactly highlight their individualism, do they? Anyway, unless some real heart and personality come out of this group, none of them are going to do that well. 50/1

And so to Lesley. I'd have been rugby tackling her for that single bed, believe me. I'm still on the fence about Les, hence the middle odds, because on one hand I think she could be a really positive influence on the house, but on the other hand, her fake laugh/cry thing annoys the hell out of me, and Davina said that she wrote that she doesn't like music, full stop, indicating a deficiency in the soul department. The jury's out. 30/1

Next up, Nicky. At the moment she's straddling the groups, which is always a dangerous game to play (although I don't actually think she's 'playing a game', just weighing up her options) because people seem to think that being nice to everyone is two-faced. No housemates, it's just being nice. Hopefully she'll stay in for a good while so we can see her come out of her shell. 20/1

Tracey, ah Tracey. It's phat, isn't it? 'AVE IT!! What a wonderful thing it is to have a "character" who also seems to be a really good person. As long as The Dollies don't try to dress her up like a, well, a doll, and she uses the nearest kitchen appliance (if they happen to be in the bedroom) to lash out at her attackers, she's sure to do really well, and good for her. 12/1

Currently the second favourite then, is Carol. Now personally, I don't see the big deal about Carol, but I've tried to be a bit objective, and it was clear from all the cheering on launch night that she's already got legions of fans. She seems perfectly lovely, but winning material? I'm yet to be convinced, but am going with majority opinion - 8/1

And our favourite, could it be anyone else, it's Laura. She can actively fit in with both of the groups that have already formed (rather than floating between them, like Nicky is at the moment) and she seems such a genuine, lovely person - and like the series of old, it appears that that's what we want again. BB lost it's innocence this winter, and its sense of fun way before that, maybe Laura's the one to bring it back. 5/1

If only they'd been triplets, and she'd been called Sally... Salamanda! (Almost works...) Only Available for Panto writers may use Samanda - I'm taking it as intellectual property! ;)
