Big Brother Quote of the Week: Week 1

charleyyeah.gif"Quote" of the week? Singular? How can I pick just the one? Well, I'm going to outright cheat and select some runners-up as well as a winner. Pretty cavalier, huh?

Firstly, an honourable mention for the now-departed Emily's "there's a new music sweeping the nation - it's called indie". This quote did not actually materialise inside the house, and is therefore ineligible (where are these rules coming from?). But it's obviously too good to go unrecognised. Why, even Popjustice rated it worthy of its priceless cynicism.

Secondly, Samanda and Charley cannot be considered for inclusion due to being, respectively, incomprehensible and prone to using the word "yeah?" more than any other word in every single sentence.

You'll find the top 3 after the jump...

3: Chanelle's various meltdowns have proved extremely entertaining. Before Straightenergate there was Bogrollgate, when she wailed this gem in Big Brother's face while in the diary room: "When I get genital herpes then you'll be sorry!" Now there's a threat you don't hear everyday.

2: Leslie's attempts at dry humour have gone over (or just straight through the middle of) the heads of the majority of the housemates. This has clearly been hard on the oldest-ever housemate, who has threatened to walk several times and was reduced to tears in a recent chat with Big Brother.

She returned to the bedroom to have a little weep, but, not wishing her housemates to see her in such a vulnerable state, she kneeled by her bed and hid her head under her duvet. When Emily asked if she was ok, Leslie, her head still hidden, immediately responded with the deadpan: "Yes thank you, I'm just sniffing my mattress." Cue bemusement on the face of Emily, who seemed to believe this unlikely explanation.

1: Ziggy's entrance to the house threw the ladies into something of a frenzy, with the usually level-headed Laura thrown for a loop as her self-esteem seemed to plummet when faced with the Beckham sorta-lookey-likey. Laura, bless her, proceeded to admit that people had told her she looked like Peter Kay. Ziggy's reaction was to frown earnestly as if auditioning for One Tree Hill and assert: "You don't look like Peter Kay. You look like yourself." Sadly he did not follow this nugget by urging her to look for the hero inside herself. Maybe that will be next week's gem?
